Edit a Video

Overview

The Edit Video page allows you to update your video's information, appearance, availability, and distribution after it has been uploaded.

From this page you can:

  • Update the video's information and organization
  • Manage thumbnails and poster images
  • Schedule when the video is available
  • Configure access and monetization
  • Share and embed your video
  • Replace the original video file
  • Add captions

Navigation

Go to Content → Videos, then click the video's name or select Edit from the menu.

1. Edit Video Details

Open the Details tab to edit the video's basic information.

Basic Information

Here you can edit:

  • Name (required)
  • Description
  • Categories
  • Talent (appears after at least one Talent profile has been created)

Categories determine where your content appears throughout your website and apps.

If you haven't created any categories yet, click + New Category or follow the Categories tutorial.

The Talent field lets you associate actors, speakers, instructors, or presenters with the video.

Once assigned, the video appears on the relevant Talent page, and the Talent appears on the video's page.

Complete as many fields as possible. Rich metadata makes your content easier to organize, search, and discover.

2. Manage Images

The Visual Presentation section controls how your video appears throughout Bamboo.

Thumbnail

The thumbnail is used across most website and app layouts.

You can:

  • Remove the current thumbnail
  • Capture a new thumbnail directly from the video
  • Download the current thumbnail

Poster Image

The Poster Image is a vertical image used by supported layouts, such as Poster row and Portrait cards (bigger vertical thumbnails).

We recommend uploading a dedicated poster whenever possible instead of relying only on the standard thumbnail.

Bamboo Tip

High-quality artwork has a significant impact on viewer engagement. Use clear, high-resolution images for both thumbnails and posters.

3. Schedule Availability

This is an optional section, and isn't commonly used.

Use the Scheduling section to automatically control when a video becomes available.

You can configure:

  • Start Date
  • End Date

This is useful for:

  • Scheduled releases
  • Time-limited content
  • Seasonal promotions

If no dates are configured, the video remains available according to its Privacy settings.

4. Advanced Fields

The Advanced section contains optional metadata.

Some fields are always available, including:

  • Sort Order - Decides on the order of the items in the category
  • Reference ID - Primarily used for external content and for content import as an additional ID.

Additional fields may also appear depending on your Content Settings configuration.

Examples include:

  • Genre
  • Rating
  • Producer
  • Season
  • Release Year
  • Trailer URL - allows adding an external HLS URL (but not YouTube), or choosing an internally uploaded video, to be used as a trailer for the current video.

Administrators can enable or disable these fields from Content → Content Settings .

Your Video Edit page may not contain every field shown in this guide. The available fields depend on your Content Settings.

5. Access & Monetization

Open the Access & Monetization tab to control who can watch the video and whether payment is required.

Access

Available options include:

  • Privacy - Private/Public
  • Video Password (Only supported on the web)

Privacy settings determine whether a video is Private or Public. Private videos are hidden from viewers across the site and apps, though they can still be added within a channel.

Password protection enables you to restrict access without changing the video’s privacy setting.

We support only one password per video. Please ensure that the password is shared with the intended viewers so they can access and watch the video.

Monetization

You can also configure:

  • Price (Pay Per View) - For one time payments
  • Subscriptions

Assigning a subscription package makes the video available to subscribers of that package.

If no price or subscription is assigned, the video is available according to your platform's access settings.

Bamboo Tip

Before selling videos, complete your Stripe setup and create at least one subscription package.

6. Distribution & Embed

The Distribution tab provides links and embed code for sharing your content.

The Links section provides quick-access URLs for your video. Depending on your account type and video configuration, you may see one or more of the following:

  • Standalone Page URL - A direct link to a dedicated, shareable page for this video. Use this to share the video externally or embed it on other sites.
  • HLS Stream URL - The raw streaming URL for this video. This is useful for integrating with external players or third-party platforms that accept HLS streams.
  • VOD Page URL - A link to the video's page within your platform, where viewers can watch it alongside your site's branding and navigation.

Click any link to copy it to your clipboard.

Embed Code

Bamboo automatically generates embed code for your video.

Available formats include:

  • iFrame Embed
  • JavaScript Embed

You can also choose which Player Studio player will be used for the embedded video.

Bamboo Tip

Players can be customized in Tools → Player Studio before generating your embed code.

7. Video Files

The Video Files tab lets you download existing video files or replace the original source.

Here you can:

  • Download the original source file
  • Download any encoded quality
  • Replace the original video by uploading a new file
  • Replace the original video using a direct download URL

Replacing a video keeps the same:

  • Video page
  • Embed codes
  • Analytics
  • Video ID

Only the video file itself is replaced.

Bamboo Tip

Processing a replacement video may take several hours depending on the file size.

8. Captions

The Captions tab allows you to manage subtitles for your video.

Click Add Caption to upload one or more SRT subtitle files.

You can upload captions in multiple languages to improve accessibility and provide subtitles for viewers in different languages.
