Amazon Appstore: Artwork and Listing Guide

This guide covers everything you need to publish your Fire TV app on the Amazon Appstore: the artwork for your app and your store page, the text Amazon asks for, the right category, and the rights and review details Amazon checks.

Bamboo usually prepares and submits your store listing for you. Use this guide to get everything ready in advance, or to manage your listing yourself in the Amazon Developer Console.

Before you start: you need your own Amazon Developer account, with your payment and tax details filled in and Bamboo invited as an Administrator. Learn more: Activating the Amazon Appstore Platform

Where to find it: sign in to the Amazon Developer Console and open your app. Your listing is split into these pages:

  • Upload Your App File: app title and category.
  • Appstore Details: descriptions, feature bullets, keywords, and images.
  • Content Rating: the content rating questionnaire.

In this article:

  1. Artwork for your app: icon, splash screen, and placeholder
  2. Store artwork: background image, screenshots, and promo image
  3. Listing text: title, descriptions, feature bullets, and keywords
  4. Choose a category: which one fits your app
  5. Third-party content and rights: the agreements to have ready
  6. Review requirements: content rating, test account, and payments
  7. Checklist: everything in one list

Store artwork

These images appear on your Appstore page. Screenshots must show your real app.

Image Size (pixels) Required?
Background image 1920 × 1080, JPG or PNG Yes. Shown behind your app's details on Fire TV. Keep key content inside the center 1214 × 830.
Screenshots 1920 × 1080 (landscape), JPG or PNG with no transparency Yes, 3 to 10
Promotional image 1024 × 500 Optional
Video 1080 × 720, up to 60 minutes Optional, up to 5

Make sure each file's extension matches its real type (for example, a PNG saved as .png), or the upload fails.

Make your screenshots work for you: Bamboo can take screenshots from your app for you. We recommend turning them into marketing images: your real app screens with a short message for viewers. For example, a screenshot of your channels with the text "24/7 channels, watch anytime".

Display title Short Your brand or service name.

Product feature bullets 3 to 5 bullets Your app's main features, one per line.
Keywords Optional Search words, separated by commas.

Writing tips

  • The first 200 characters of your short description are all most Fire TV viewers see. Make them count.
  • Plain text only: HTML in your descriptions fails Amazon's checks.
  • Mentioning Amazon: follow Amazon's trademark guidelines, for example "for Fire TV".

Choose a category

Amazon has categories with subcategories. Choose the one closest to your content:

Your app Category
Movies, shows, or general video Movies & TV > On-Demand Movie Streaming
Church or faith Lifestyle > Religion & Spirituality
Courses and lessons Education
Sports Sports > TV & Event Streaming
Music and concerts Music & Audio > On-Demand Music Streaming

Third-party content and rights

Amazon requires you to own the rights to the content in your app. If your app shows content you didn't create, get written permission before you submit. This includes:

  • Movies, shows, or sports licensed from a distributor.
  • Videos from YouTube channels you don't own. Apps built from them fail review.
  • Music, sermons, or worship content from other artists or ministries.
  • Other brands' names and logos.

If Amazon asks for proof, send a signed letter from the rights holder or a copy of the license agreement, as a PDF. Screenshots of an agreement aren't accepted, and a disclaimer in your app isn't enough. If Bamboo submits for you, send the documents to us with your Kickoff document.

Review requirements

  • Content rating: a questionnaire about your content, such as violence or language, and your target audience. It can only be changed when a new app version is submitted.
  • Privacy: whether your app collects user data. Your answers create the privacy labels shown on Fire TV.
  • Test account: a working username and password for Amazon's testers, with access to all content, including paid content. It goes in the Testing Instructions.
  • Payments: subscriptions and paid content sold in your app must use Amazon's in-app purchases.
  • Real content: publish your videos and set up your categories before you submit.
